Thermal analysis of doors and windows to produce a U-value that can be used as part of SAP Rating calculations for whole buildings.
Chiltern Dynamics offers British Fenestration Rating Council (BFRC) accredited thermal simulation for modelling the thermal performance of external doorsets and windows to BS EN ISO 10077-1 or EN ISO 10077-2.
BM TRADA is approved by the BFRC to offer certified energy ratings for windows.
Part L requires doors and windows (in England and Wales) to prove thermal performance, the U-value for the doors and windows must meet be less than 2.0 for Timber, PVC-U or Composite and less than 2.2 for Aluminium or Steel.
These figures are likely to be lowered in the revised Part L (due out April 2006).
Simulation has the advantages of allowing ‘tweaks’ to the product design on the computer to achieve the desired performance for the lowest cost, as well as addressing the many permutations of size and configuration which exist within any range of products.
