Falcon Panel Products Ltd has taken the unique step of asking BM TRADA Certification to verify the technical content within its new Strebord Technical Manual (Version 8) with respect to its certified details.
By doing so, said Sales Director Mark Percival, ‘the verified manual spells out the scope of applications for Strebord cores, as laid down in the Global Assessments issued by Chiltern International Fire. The specifications of the relevant pages and data within the manual which carry the BM TRADA Q-Mark have been checked against the current GA reports and verified to be covered by our scope of certification’. Also covered in the manual are extensive Strebord guides to thermal, mechanical and acoustic performance generated from UKAS-accredited tests and test reports.
The new Version 8 is intended as an operator’s manual for the conversion of Strebord door cores into high performance doorsets, although the finished doorsets will not themselves be Q-Marked unless the manufacturer is a member of the BM TRADA scheme, with this doorset specification on their scope. ‘We believe it is the most comprehensive guide on the market for door manufacturers, joinery companies, fire officers, architects and specifiers,’ Mr Percival added.
The manual is the culmination of 12 months’ work by Chiltern International Fire, sister company Chiltern Dynamics, Falcon Panel Products and consultants Doortech 2000. ‘This was very much a collaborative effort and the contribution of all parties is much appreciated in pulling together this professional reference guide,’ he stressed.
Chiltern International Fire Deputy Technical Manager Mark Cummings said, ‘Our consultancy team put the manual under the microscope to ensure the guidance was in keeping with the Global Assessments previously issued. We can see huge benefits to manufacturers in other product sectors, as a manual like this says exactly what can and cannot be done within the scope of applications.’
