Driven by the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order, demand for the BM TRADA Certification fire door installer scheme continues to grow.
Part B (Fire safety) of the Building Regulations (England & Wales) has for years recommended, although has not prescribed, third-party certification. However, the impact of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order cannot be underestimated. Many of the cases which come to court highlight poor installation and maintenance of fire doors among the primary causes for the spread of fire in residential and commercial properties, as well as in hotels and hostels.
Deputy Sales Manager Adam Osborn said, ‘Building owners, landlords and tenants are more aware of the need for correct installation by qualified personnel. 'Specifiers are therefore increasingly demanding that installers of all types of fire doors are third-party certified and sub-contractors are often finding that they cannot tender for work without it.'
Under the Q-Mark scheme, the registered installer’s work is audited on site twice a year, which gives added reassurance to clients and is one of the reasons that the Q-Mark is recognised by major organisations such as NHBC. The next ‘Fire Doors Explained’ seminar will take place on 29th September 2011 at BM TRADA’s High Wycombe headquarters, with a half-day course for BM TRADA Q-Mark Fire Door Registered Installers on 30th September 2011.
