Chiltern Dynamics has issued a free guidance sheet of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on CE marking, with a step-by-step guide on how to ensure external doors and windows covered under the European Standard EN 14351-1:2006 comply with the Construction Products Directive (CPD).

Senior Test Engineer Paul Andrews said, ‘The dilemma for manufacturers is that although compliance with the CPD will be mandatory within the UK from March 1st this year, CE marking will remain voluntary. This does cause confusion.’

The approved method to demonstrate compliance with the CPD is described in EN 14351-1:2006 Windows and external pedestrian doorsets without resistance to fire and smoke leakage characteristics.  ‘CE marking is without doubt one of the most straightforward ways to show compliance with the CPD and our information sheet will help manufacturers to decide the best route for them to take,’ Mr Andrews added. ‘Many will already have all the test evidence and other documents such as COSHH sheets that they will need for CE marking.’
