Chiltern International Fire was delighted to welcome a delegation of more than 20 guests from the Middle East, including representatives of Bahrain Civil Defence, the Royal Oman Police, the Kuwait Fire Service Directorate, United Agencies, Kuwait and Jordan’s Royal Scientific Society, to its fire laboratories in June. Guests from Hong Kong, too, joined the group for the day.

Representatives of Halspan and Securiglass attended, to give a manufacturer’s insight into discussions and to provide products for the range of tests carried out, including reaction to fire and fire resistance.

Fire door testing has always been of particular interest to countries in the region, where new and exciting buildings have been springing up at a rapid rate. High-rise constructions can be complex in nature, however, and have their own issues relating to fire safety, so fire doors have a critical role to play. The delegates watched with interest as a Halspan doorset in a glazed screen was tested to destruction.

CIF Chief Operating Officer Jon Osborn said, ‘Visits like this are all about building relationships. We feel it is critical for those who put their trust in Chiltern Fire to be able to see for themselves how professionally we conduct ourselves and how seriously we take their needs and concerns. By witnessing the test process, it is easier to appreciate the importance of testing and certification in reducing the real risks of fire.'
