Chiltern Fire welcomes international delegation

Chiltern International Fire's Jon Osborn with Kaan Yildirim

Chiltern International Fire (CIF) was delighted to welcome to its headquarters on 1st June 2009 a delegation from Europe and the Middle East, including civil defence representatives, manufacturers and other clients. Guests travelled from Dubai, Sharjah, Jordan, Doha and Cyprus.

CIF Chief Operating Officer Jon Osborn explained the structure of the BM TRADA Group worldwide and outlined the range of testing and consultancy services offered by Chiltern Fire and doors and window specialist Chiltern Dynamics. He also discussed the critical role of testing in third-party product certification and touched on the benefits of the BM TRADA Q-Mark certification schemes to specifiers and end-users.

During the full day’s programme, guests had the opportunity to witness live demonstrations of reaction to fire (treated and untreated timber) and fire resistance testing (doorset with glazed screen), as well as a live fire behaviour demonstration in the fire services training facility, with guided tours of Chiltern Dynamics’ mechanical testing laboratory.

Mike Fawcett of specialist glass manufacturer Securiglass gave a short presentation on glass performance.  Representatives of Halspan were on hand throughout the day to give a manufacturer’s viewpoint.

Mr Osborn said, ‘Building relationships with clients and specifiers is important to us. We feel that live demonstrations of testing help to develop understanding of the product and the process and enable us to underline to clients how seriously we take their needs and concerns.’
