Chiltern Dynamics has added Frequently Asked Questions on acoustic testing to its website. The company is UKAS accredited to carry out airborne and impact sound insulation testing of buildings.
Acoustic testing has been mandatory in England & Wales since 2003, under Approved Document E (ADE). It requires new buildings and buildings formed by a material change of use to achieve a reasonable level of sound insulation between dwellings.
Questions such as, ‘What happens during sound testing and will this disrupt work on site?’ are posed and succinctly answered: ‘The test itself produces very high levels of noise. However, testing also requires relatively quiet conditions. For these reasons, any workforce in the testing area will have to leave temporarily to ensure test accuracy. Testing on site varies with site conditions, but generally takes about 45 minutes per test.’
