Chiltern Dynamics is staging half-day ‘Air Tightness Testing Explained’ courses to outline the impact of significant changes to the requirements for air tightness testing of buildings in Approved Document L, which come into effect in October this year.
The changes affect all new dwellings and buildings other than dwellings, as well as extensions to non-dwellings. They will have an impact on the size of projects requiring testing, the number of units to be tested and the performance levels required.
The new course is based around an actual air test, enabling delegates to feel for air leakage points. In addition, a series of presentations will explain:
-
The revised Approved Document L requirements for air tightness testing
-
Implications of the changes
-
The impact of air permeability on overall building energy performance
-
The testing procedure and process
-
The key aspects of creating and maintaining the air barrier
-
Typical air paths, based on site experience
The course is aimed at building contractors, housebuilders, Building Control, approved inspectors and designers. It takes place at the company’s High Wycombe headquarters on 2 and 29 November 2010 and 1 and 30 March 2011. The cost is £130 + VAT for TRADA members and £155 + VAT for non-members.
Demonstrations can also be delivered to individual organisations on site, to enable site staff/managers to understand the process and ‘feel’ the impact of their work and/or the seminars from the programme can be delivered as in-house CPD at the company’s own offices.
