Cone calorimetry testing analyses the behaviour of products and materials when exposed to heat and a source of ignition. Both the amount of energy released and how quickly that energy is released can be established. Results are available immediately after testing, allowing research to proceed quickly.
The results provide a valuable contribution to fire behaviour research and by using specialised software can help to predict product performance in the single burning item test, EN 13823.
As sample sizes used for the test are small, cone calorimetry testing is a quick, low cost, way to research the fire performance of products still in the development stage.
