Chiltern Dynamics has organised this ‘hands-on’ half-day training course to explain:

  • The importance of air tightness
  • Revisions to Part L regarding air leakage
  • Testing requirements for buildings
  • The testing procedure and process
  • Good practice
  • Common failure points

Audience

  • Approved inspectors

Programme

9:30 – 10:00     Arrival and coffee

10:00 – 11:00   Air tightness

      • Why is air tightness important? The impact of air tightness on CO2 emissions and climate change
      • Which buildings will need a test and how many tests will be required? The requirements for dwellings and non-dwellings, new build and extensions under the revised Part L.
      • How do you prove compliance and to whom?
      • Good reasons for achieving air tightness. Demonstrating quality workmanship, reducing client heating bills, possible trade-offs and management of sub-contractors.

11:00 – 11:20   Air Tightness Testing

      • The theory
      • Measurement – test method (ATTMA TS1)
      • Calculation – envelope area, leakage rates, etc

11:20 – 11:40   Coffee break

11:40 – 12:30   Demonstration of Air Tightness Testing

      • Actual air tightness test carried out on a 3-bedroom detached house
      • Identification of common problems
      • Practical demonstration of the impact of various factors on airtightness

12:30 – 12:50   Case studies

      • Examples of good practice and common mistakes
      • What to look out for on site

12:50 – 1:10   Commissioning testing
