| Clients welcome ‘hands on’ approach to air tightness training |
|
Chiltern Dynamics’ Energy Services Department has been taking its ‘Air Tightness Testing Explained’ training events out onto site, to demonstrate to builders and developers how straightforward it can be to pass the test. Head of the energy department, Tom Gregory, said, ‘Clients have been concerned about air tightness testing, which became mandatory in April this year, under Part L requirements for dwellings and large commercial buildings. By taking the training course out to them and running a benchmark test on site, we have enabled clients to feel the difference between a pass and fail.’ Demand for in house training has grown significantly since the ‘Explained Days’ were launched earlier this year. ‘Our training formula of combining theory with practice has proved very successful in other areas. We incorporated a practical demonstration of air tightness testing into the training days held at our High Wycombe headquarters, using our own test house on site. It was a simple step to repackage the course to offer it at clients’ premises, with a demonstration test on a building or a working site.’ Another advantage for clients, said Mr Gregory, is that the benchmark test shows clients ‘where they are in a development and what they must do to ensure a pass for all the buildings to be tested at a later stage’. ‘Air Tightness Testing Explained’ days will also be held at High Wycombe in 2007, on 17th April, 6th June, 13th September and 13th November, to explain the principles, process and practicalities of air tightness testing. Aimed at building contractors, quantity surveyors, building control and approved inspectors, the day’s programme will cover:
